Sun protection

In addition to its positive effects on our bodies and well-being, the sun's radiation also poses health risks due to the UV radiation that sunlight contains.

UV rays affect your eyes and skin. Immediate consequences such as eye inflammation or sunburn may occur. Some consequences appear years later and can cause long-term damage such as lens opacity or cancer.

The skin is the largest organ of the human body. It protects your body against heat, light, injuries and infections and above all against aggressive UV rays and their consequences. It is therefore extremely important to effectively protect the skin against the sun and to take the necessary measures to protect yourself against ultraviolet rays.

Head and neck protection

People working outdoors, for example in the road, pipeline and building construction or gardening sectors, are at greater risk of developing skin cancer. The dangerous UV radiation already increases in the spring and reaches its peak at the beginning of summer. The head, neck, ears and forehead in particular are exposed to UV rays and must be protected against sunburn at all costs.

The best way to protect yourself against UV rays is to wear the right clothing and cover as many areas of your skin as possible. This includes headgear with a visor and a neck protector to help you prevent skin cancer.

A safety helmet will protect you against the heat from direct sunlight on your head in addition to impact from falling and flying objects. The additional neck protector with visor ensures ideal protection against UV radiation in particularly exposed areas such as the neck, ears, forehead and nose.

Protect yourself properly – before it's too late!

Eye protection

Just as UV rays can cause damage to your skin, they can also cause a variety of harmful effects on your eyes and eyelids. Working outdoors regularly exposes you to harmful UV rays, even on cloudy days.

Inadequate protection can have dangerous consequences, such as chronic damage, corneal inflammation and even conjunctival cancer. Safety glasses with UV protection optimally protect your eyes against UV rays and ensure you have a good view even in strong sunlight.

Skin protection

About 1000 skin cancer cases which are due to high UV radiation at work are recorded per year. Skin areas that are not otherwise covered or protected remain at risk from UV exposure which can lead to drastic consequences. To fully shield yourself, always ensure that you are adequately protected.

Sunscreens cannot completely block UV rays and for this reason are not a substitute for other UV protection measures. However, with the right sunscreen you delay the onset of sunburn and as a result prevent sunburn and resulting damage.

Good to know

Protection against UV rays is classified in the three categories A, B and C.

UV-A radiation

  • Long wavelength UVA light covers the range from 315-400 nm
  • Hazard: Skin ageing and cancer

UV-B radiation

  • Medium wavelength UVB light covers the range from 280-315 nm
  • Hazard: Sunburn and cancer

UV-C radiation

  • Short wavelength UVC light covers the range from 100-280 nm
  • Hazard: Harmless for humans

What should you look for in a sunscreen?

  • A sufficiently high sun protection factor.
  • Protection against UV-A radiation.
  • Apply sunscreen in good time and in sufficient quantities.
  • Reapply at regular intervals.
